The Joseph A. Ferko String Band would like to take this opportunity, to wish our brother, Mr. Al Koenig, an incredibly Happy 86th Birthday!

Mr. Koenig (in red costume/glasses) joined Ferko in 1969, and during his tenure as a member of Ferko, Mr. Koenig celebrated his 25th, 30th and 50th anniversaries respectively. He is also a Gold Card, Life-Time Member of Ferko, and a Ferko Hall of Fame member. In 2010, Mr. Koenig was inducted into the prestigious Philadelphia Mummers String Band Association, Old Timers Hall of Fame.

His accomplishments are extensive and his love of Ferko infectious and obvious! Mr. Koenig, the consummate professional and gentleman, served on various committees and as a Ferko Board of Director for many years. He served as President for 3 years, including serving as President for Ferko’s showstopper in 1981 – “G.I. Give”, as well as Ferko’s infamous, 1982 spectacular 1st prize performance of,

“Golden Memories of The Bowery.” In addition, Captain William J. Speziale was also awarded the coveted 1st prize captain.

Stepping up to serve yet again,  in 1982, Mr. Koenig also became the band’s Business Manager, a position he held for an incredible 37 consecutive years! Under his impeccable leadership, Mr. Koenig, a true visionary took the band to new levels and heights, never before seen.

We are very confident that Captain Joe Ferko himself, and his band - both past and present - could not be more proud of Mr. Koenig, and all of his accomplishments.

Lastly, we also want to say thank you to Mr. Koenig, for being our brother

our leader

our confidant

our adviser, and

our friend!
